Nursery
Take a tour of the Nursery

Nursery is the the start of the Early Years Foundation Stage at Castlefield School. We have a purpose built Nursery building, that is spacious and well resourced.

We have a 'Two Year Old room', for children aged 2 to 3 years old and a 'Three Year Old room' for children aged 3 and 4 years old. The children share the large outside area that is set up for meaningful outdoor learning.

As a school based Nursery, a qualified teacher is responsible for the planning and delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Our team of specialist practitioners are caring, experienced and highly skilled. Provision is progressive throughout the Nursery and individual needs are planned for.

There is a focus on supporting children to develop their language, communication skills, and social skills in particular through a range of child initiated learning experiences and adult guided activities.
From September 2024, we will be offering 15 hour and 30 hour provision. Funded and non funded places are available.

Expectation of Readiness

The school has determined that pupils who access whole day provision need to be able to:

  • Separate from their parent/carer easily
  • Move independently around the setting
  • Stay awake and be energetic throughout the session
  • Behave appropriately and non-aggressively throughout the session
  • Attempt to manage their own personal hygiene, shoes and coats
  • Stay within the prescribed boundaries
  • Cope with changes of adults in the setting, without distress.

As such we require all pupils accessing the 30 hours provision to meet the above requirements (the school will consider medical or specific needs of individual children when assessing eligibility).  Should your child not be ready to access the 30 hour provision (based on the above statements), the school reserves the right to deny or remove access to this service.
